Does anyone know anything about The Mercedes and Ferrari engines that the two respective teams will be running next year? Things like consumption, bhp, and mass. I'd like to know what to expect from these two in 2000. Also, is anyone in the know about chassis developments?

I went to the Mercedes fest in Stuttgard a while ago. The chief of Ilmor said that the new engine has been ready for some time and has been successful on the testbench. He said it has more power but he was reluctant to give details. Ron also said the Y2K car was ready, but he said that they will be testing the 1999 car with the new engine until late January next year. He was asked why they would do such a thing when they had all sorts of reliability problems this year. He said that all the problems they had were due to the interaction between the gearbox and the engine. He said that this relationship was not understood. Now the relationship is adequately understood and they will commence as such. So DC's tests are only on the engine.
