Interesting that the Singapore circuit has an intersection entered twice, and from opposite directions...

This was also a feature of the Woody Point circuit in Brisbane, which was used only once (in 1936) for a 'high speed reliability trial' at a time when the RACQ was trying to convince the government that they should allow racing on public roads.

The current Long Beach circuit also features something similar, although the divided highway is exited at two different intersections one block apart.

The Hamilton NZ street circuit used for motorcycle racing from 1973 - 78 and a different version 1993-94 used a large roundabout as a feature.

The early version used parts of it twice a lap.

My business partner had raced there and remarked that you seemed always to be approaching, going round or leaving the damm roundabout.

i believe the commentators position was in the center of the roundabout

Here's the situation at Woody Point...

0923woodypointkateandlille.jpg

Quite narrow gravel suburban streets, the first pic shows a car turning left out of one of the fastest straights on the circuit, note the house on the right. The second shows another car turning left in the opposite direction, again the house on the corner identifies the junction while there's a car parked right on the corner. The third pic shows an out-of-control car coming from the right, just visible on the left is another car going the other way (along with its wisp of dust), the parked car on the corner can clearly be seen.

Thank you for this.

I had not realised that the 1947 race’s circuit was so much shorter.

It looks pretty interesting to me...

The 1948 form is such a natural path for the circuit, the length of that version was so much more in keeping with those times, so I'm curious as to just why that tight hairpin was used and the more flowing section which was to follow the next year wasn't a part of the 1947 layout.

Looking at it on Street View one finds that the section descending that hill is not terribly wide, but the (one way) street into which the course turns is positively skinny.

Anyway, it's time once again to thank Oscar and his obsession for bringing these to us in such detail and uniformity.

The later circuit is one that I have actually walked around.

I thought it was an extremely interesting circuit, with considerable elevation changes.

My comment at the time was that if Ospedaletti had had a casino, Monaco might never had got off the ground.

The most remarkable thing about the circuit was that as far as I can tell, the curving main ‘straight’ was the main road along the coast of that part of Italy, so when races were taking place, I wondered how anyone got from San Remo through to France.
