Responding to my own question, a check on ancestry.co.uk shows Murray's BMD entry in 1923 under "Graeme M Walker".

Murray at one of Teddy Yip’s dinners (Jo Ramirez was the only one who knew how to use chopsticks!)
I believe this was 1982 - rather a different background in those days
Another dinner (with Eddie Jordan) - might have been ‘85

I doubt the BBC has ever covered Macao...I assume Murray managed to combine business with a scouting trip? I get the impression of Teddy Yip that he might have invited him over?

I've spent this evening re-reading this thread.
Because today would have been Murray's 100th birthday.

Murray, Happy 100th Birthday in Heaven
Moment of racing glory for young Murray as he wins the 250 cc race at Brands Hatch in 1947 on Tom Arter's AJS

I’m pretty sure they did at least once, late 70s I think because I remember watch Jacky Ickx win the saloon race (or was that on ITV?).

[O/T] He was precisely one day older than my late mother.
He was born the same day as Nicholas Parsons, I noticed yesterday.
Which raises interesting mental images of Murray as a contestant on Just a Minute.

He certainly was there on a couple of other years commentating for trackside and TV along with Ian Titchmarsh and the redoubtable Chris Carter ( bikers)

You listen to Croft for anything more than about 5 minutes, and you thank all that is Holy that you were born in the 70's and you grew up with the mistakes, errors but genuine, enthusiasm, passion, honesty and professionalism of Murray.
I met the man briefly, he was as you would expect, honest, humble and fun. I simply said thankyou and he gave me a firm two handed shake, quality.
I still miss him as I am sure we all do at times, as above all he loved his sport, and he very sincerely, genuinely did, even I question Motorsport at times but Murray never, ever did!

So 3 years after fighting from Normandy to the Baltic in a Sherman Tank….
What an absolutely incredible life and an incredible warm, wonderful man.
The world needs a lot more Murray Walkers.

One tale of Murray's that I heard him tell a few times, but always amused me, related to one of the first (if not the first) times he was joined in the commentary box by James Hunt. The race had got underway with Murray holding THE microphone (there was only one). Then all of a sudden something happened out on the track that got James very excited, and, he ill advisedly snatched the mike out of Murray's hands. Murray was absolutely furious and gave master Hunt a real ear-bashing and told him never ever try that again. And, I somehow suspect he didn't.

Make no mistake - Muddly was a lovely bloke, no question, but like so many of his cut, and of his generation, and of course of his life experience - he had a core of spring steel - its edge, razor-sharp.

What I recalled about MW , for all the geniality and bonhomie , was a surprisingly physical presence .
