Some time ago I acquired a copy of Piero Taruffi's The Technique of Motor Racing and slipped inside was an intriguing invoice dated 9/12/1953 from Performance Cars on The Great West Road for a "Maserati Sports-racing vehicle, supercharged..." with the registration number MPB 504. The sale was to a Mr. J. Richardson in the sum of £595.

I recently carried out some limited research of my own on the internet and this appears to be an 8C 3000 chassis 3002, originally run by the works in 1932 before being owned by Bernard Rubin and driven by Tim Birkin in the 1933 Tripoli Grand Prix during which he burned his arm on the exhaust leading to his death when the wound turned septic. If this is the same chassis then the invoice might be of some interest in the history of a significant car.

The car appears to have acquired the registration MPB 504 in 1946 but there seems to be a gap in the online history between 1949 and some time in the 1950's (see barchetta.cc webpage). I don't know if this document would be of interest to anyone here or in the wider historic Maserati community but as I have no use for it I would rather send it to an interested party than just dispose of it. Does anyone have any interest or further information on the car and its ownership/history in this period?

If it's got pencil drawings inside the covers, it's the one that was stolen from me 60 years ago - The book, that is, not the Maserati...

No pencil drawings I'm afraid, so not your book.

Fastreader, before it's too late, be interestied to see this rare invoice on here please..

R M 'Mike' Oliver  (of Connaught fame) ran the car at March 48 Luton Hoo meeting. October 1982 Classic & Sports Car ran a Cyril Posthumus feature on this car. Although my note of that doesn't mention J Richardson.

As the first to contact me, Adam Ferrington (aka Eustace) has now claimed the original. I'm not sure how to post images on here but I have kept a scanned copy of the invoice so if anyone wants to see it just pm me with your email address and I will send it to you.

Closed for good in the late 90s, then taken over by the Toyota garage from across the road.

Then demolished and a new Toyota dealership built on the site,

This his how it looks today from roughly the same angle.
