from Sonona, is anyone else watching this?
I've just stumbled on yesterday's stream on the Goodwood YouTube channel. It's a circuit I don't know, so am enjoying that plus some cars we don't usually see in the UK over breakfast.

Thank you!

Is that what used to be known as Sears Point?

Thanks - looks like I'll have something to watch this evening.

The difference in commentary between this (plus Rennsport Reunion etc) and Goodwood Revival is stark. Whereas you get informed commentary (OK not all the time) about the cars and what is actually going on with regard to placings, times and progress at Goodwood it's less of the sort at the American historics. All you seem to get is generic chat and during qualifying at least, an almost total disregard of who's doing what. Plus no real insight of what the drivers are doing.

I shall try to be more tolerant of Goodwood's commentary in future: for sure we could do much worse.

Yes, must admit, I had noticed that while watching yesterday's stream, whoever the British guy doing the majority of the commentary has produced some absolute howlers...'Phil Hill in his absolute peak in 1950 driving in Formula One...'

I rolled fast forward through the replay until I came to some interesting looking McLarens waiting in the pits to go out.

I watched for a while until being informed that Bruce had immediately recognised Ron Dennis' talent when he started at McLaren as a mechanic early in his career.

That's when the need to continue viewing suddenly left me.....

There were indeed some lovely Can-Am McLarens there. I tried watching the race feed yesterday but the same inane chatting was again in evidence and no real race insight. I managed about 5 minutes.

I watched the Qualification day on You Tube so skipped past all the hyper car rubbish and several of the pointless races. I have heard the main commenmtatoer before and his disregard for anything approaching fact. I did like the chatter but also found the disregard for historical accuracy and any commentary on what was happening too much. I didn't bother trying to find the race day on You Tube.

Hmm... a bit of a mixed bag, wasn't it? Some lovely interesting cars and footage, truly irritating presentation and abysmally poor grasp of history...

The fairly spirited drive by one of our HSCC regulars - Horatio Fitz-Simon - in the Elan was entertaining.

Overall, the commentaries were awful, I don't know where they find these people, I'd never heard of any of them.

After rescanning my over-the-air TV channels, I now have a sports channel which offers Motoamerica superbike races. The only hitch (?) is that my TV apparently cannot reproduce this channel's audio. No problem! I may not be able to tell who's who but I can tell what's happening without the commentary.

The main British guy is one of the worst commentators around sadly did all sorts for years mainly bikes, but seems to have been relegated to very low level stuff these days, stuff like Trans Am and this, Jonathan green I think, truly awful, has a voice that should never be anywhere near a microphone sadly, yet somehow always seems to find work.

I agree with the abysmal narrating. The main guy was just babbling & much of the time it had nothing to do with the on track happenings. I felt like he thought his job was to sell the viewer on how great the event was. Why not show us the races & let us make that decision? Additionally, there were lapses in the telecast, such as the re-running of the Group 4 race right at the completion of the Group 5 (F1 cars) race. At the time I didn't understand it, but now I think the track was being cleared because an M23 went into the wall & time was needed to extract it. Goodwood notwithstanding, I guess on track incidents are too harsh for the viewer's eyes.

What is Goodwood’s association with this event?

Hopefully nothing other than sharing contacts with owners and drivers. Let's hope they stick with that.
