Hello everyone. Thank you for accepting me into your boards. Recently I picked up a collection of photographs and thought you all would get a kick out of them, and could possibly help me identify some of the cars/drivers. My family was big into racing funny cars back in the 70s, so that with my passion for history love this type of stuff lol. There are other photographs of some type of speed boats, and a few with motorcycles tooling around in some mud if there is any interest.

Abarth Simca?; Ferrari V12 likely 250 from the GTO pictured; Porsche Carrera 4-cam motor in what, a Cooper or Elva?

Any ideas about venue?  Road America? Blackhawk?

Can’t help, but WOW!

We lived ten years a mile or so from Augie Pabst. In 2013, a fabricator friend in Denver had a bare frame on the floor, I asked what it was, he replied with something like “A car a little before your time,” and it was Augie’s Scarab!

He restored it for someone in California, no idea who.

Awesome photos, sorry I can’t help.

Edit: Can’t say for sure but the #21 car photo almost looks like it’s near Turn 1 at Watkins Glen

I'm in upstate New York and others have mentioned Watkins Glen which would make sense.

That is awesome that you were able to see it pre-restored! Looks like you were on point with the Watkins Glen.

You all are scary good lol.

Trenton Dairy Queen is sponsor on one of the cars, could it be Trenton, New Jersey area?

I was thinking the same thing at first. Was trying to narrow down who may have sponsored the car from there but came up empty on my searches.

You're most welcome! I will be posting a few more in the next post, but they more are just cool vintage photos.

That was my thought as well

Like mentioned above, you all had it narrowed down pretty quick. Thank you!

Thanks again for all the help above! Here are some more that were in the collection. They are a little off topic but figured you would still like to see them. I wonder what the photos labeled 1-5 were meant for. Maybe an advertisement for that shop?

Ecko, I think I speak for many in welcoming you here… I love your enthusiasm!

The bleachers in the left background, the distant hills, and to a lesser degree the Kendall banner, all conspired to my Glen theory.

What do you think, Brian? I did note the Trenton reference, contemplated the breadth of PR for a company in Trenton, and the Glen seems reasonably close to Trenton. How far might that be? Was there a road course closer to Trenton I don’t know of?

I was a sign painter in a previous life, and we carried my kit for our first couple years on the road. If pushing harder, I’d have lettered Augie’s car, which would have seemed proper and the first since 1991 of the over 500 race cars I decorated from ‘77 to ‘91.

Thanks for the photos, Ecko, they’re each an epic. They’re just a few years before my era of witness and knowledge, but for whatever reason I think the #91 car is Chuck Daigh but don’t cash that check.

Edit: Check bounced! It’s not only not 91, but it’s not Chuck Daigh. Otherwise, post was spot on. ;-)

#21 Ed Cantrell, Angels Aviation Racing Team.

#37 is the Lotus 23 of Peter Sachs, SCCA 1963 Class F Modified Champion. Ex-Ian Walker Racing.

#63 is the Stebro Sadler of Max Beimler, from Ontario. Chevrolet motor, triple carbs.

The #81 Dairy Queen is not from Trenton, New Jersey, but Trenton, Ontario, in Canada.

This is the Kelly Porsche of Wayne Kelly, a self-built car heavily influenced by the Lotus 23.

#92 is on a California-registered trailer.

The following information was provided by a couple of my mates in the Vintage forum at www.FerrariChat.com

The venue is Watkins Glen.  The date is June 30, 1963. The Ferrari 250GTO is 3767GT.  Charlie Kolb drove the car for owner Ed Cantrell. DNF,

Went from not knowing much at all about the photos to knowing who drove the cars, models, current locations, and even narrowed down the date of the race. Utterly amazing. Thank you all!

I should have recognized Watkins from this shot. Today's Ferrari GTO buyers wouldn't tolerate the louvered hood on the car.

I can confirm Rupert's identification in post #12 of the Kelly Porsche, #81.  A home-built special with Lotus 23 coachwork housing a Porsche flat-4.  Actually, three photos of it here.  Body colour was light blue.  Most definitely, the reference to Trenton is that of the city on the shores of Lake Ontario in the Canadian province of the same name.

Wayne was quite good as a designer and driver.  In his time, he also ran this car with sponsorship from Bata shoes.

During that period, we in the UK were led to believe that the presentation and preparation of racing cars in the USA was way above the sometimes scruffy cars at the average British meeting. These images belie that belief.

I am no expert on these things but checking Pourret's Ferrari book I see that only three GTO's had louvered engine covers. 3589 which was the car given to Victoria High School; 3647 a Maranello Concessionaires car which raced mainly in Europe until 1966 and 3767 the first of David Piper's cars who raced it with Ed Cantrell in 1963 and apart from racing at Daytona and Sebring it then raced in Europe at Spa and Nurburgring. It was then sold to Ed Cantrell around May 1963 and he raced at Pensacola, Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen (30 June), Bridgehampton (sept), Mosport and Augusta (1964). So a good guess that it may be Watkins Glen, re the Kendall banner as mentioned.

Note in the Blue Chip photograph a 1962 Ford Fairlane at left.

RGDS RLT

Actually, I believe it's a 1961 Ford Galaxie. The bright metal panel between the taillights on the '62 Fairlane was the full height of the taillights, while on the '61 Galaxie, it only went about halfway up as in the photo.

I believe this is the corner of Market Street and Duboce Avenue in San Francisco, and we're looking towards the east. The light-colored building directly above the M-J-B sign and the building to the right of it appear to be 51 and 57 Guerrero Street. Here's the Google street view:

Thank you again for everyone's help and knowledge. Here is the last group of photos that are still motor vehicles (except the last two that you might be able to help identify. Milk jug? Moonshine? Castle?), the rest are photos of his family standing in front of cars.

The car was raced by Grant Clark, Canadian Grand Prix 1963, to a DNF. A sister car just a few numbers out (3765) sold for $51.7 m at Sotheby's New York. Those shade tree mechanics never dreamed the cars would become so valuable!

The photo of the Meister Brauser transporter is priceless. Fall of 1963 travelling  Ont 401 to Mosport, I came behind this rig and was very impressed. That day the rig carried cars for Canadian Grand Prix, Don Devine Scarab  and Harry Heuer Chaparral. I looked for images on the net, and even posted here asking if anyone had a photo. This is exactly as I remembered it. Thanks Ecko so much for posting.

The Porsche powered Lotus 23 is definately Wayne Kellys car, that he built and raced himself. The thing that I noticed is he used a 356 transmisson and turned it upside down. The car was also driven occasionally by Grant Clark. He later sold it to Horst Kroll. Then it ended up in Quebec and was never heard of again.

However the other car No 63 with the mid engine chev engine, is really a mystery. After some research I believe it was built by Stebro of Montreal. If you do a search on Nat Abams a Canadian driver,  he raced it in Mosport in 1962 and it was listed as a Stebro MKIII on the Racing Sports Car web page.  It seems these are the only pictures of this car I have located, and never seen it again. If anyone has more information on this car please forward to me.

Having seen photos of the dash of Jim Hall's Chaparral 1, the image in Post 30 looks more like the dash of the Meister Brauser Scarab. But then Harry Heuer may have customized the interior of his Chaparral.

As I thought, the Meister Brauser Scarab, with an image taken at Mansfield in March 1961, where Heuer raced it.

I was there but do not remember much other than Rodriguez and Hill. But I happen to have the Road & Track race report. Harry Heuer ran very well in the Chaparral, "bombing past Hill on lap 51 to take second"..He hit some oil lap 65, and snapped a half shaft; the Meister Brauser crew replaced it to let him finish officially with 79 laps in. And Don Devine in the Scarab finished 4th
