That's a nice photo - I have never seen a photo of JOBO's transporter before although I must have seen it in the metal but I don't remember it !

I believe you can no longer carry race tyres jn the open on transporters because the chemical composition of modern tyres means they can go of if exposed to sunlight for long periods
Is this correct?

UV kills tyres, race tyres more so but ALL tyres. Though being in the open for a few days is not ideal but many are forced to carry them like so. I have for all my motorsport career of over 50 years. Like many these days I do wrap them in either tyre wrappers or generally black cling wrap and I will put a tarp over them if I can.
Though stored up against the wall of a transporter is probably near as bad

I think that is a basic transporter!!
Weikerts Livestock however was a car owner for quite a few front running drivers.
I can remember early 70s Modifieds/ Sprintcars travelling like so here in Oz as well.
There is a magazine pic with 4 or 5 like that in an Aussie motel car park. And that was the front runners
Though I can remember sedans coming to the track on an A bar. Driver I was involved with had been known to do it.

In fact a Weikerts sponsored Sprinter won on 11/11/23 driven by Billy Dietrich.

Bob Weikert is dead for more than twenty years now, seems the family is still involved! Dietrich is second generation, too - this is America!!
As for the pic, must be late 1971 as "Richard Lupo" is still on the car but "Dub May" on the wing. That was, I think, Weikert's first year as an owner, so everythings' still basic. May would be injured at the Western World (iirc), and looking for a sub Weikert met Kenny Weld, and the rest is history as they say.
