Greetings all TNFers,

I'm currently researching and preparing a profile of Slim Borgudd for F1 Rejects, and in the process I've come across a few questions which I figure some TNFers would be able to help me with in a split second, so here goes ...

Swedish Saloon Cars?

At this site: www.comfortracing.com there appears to be two pics of Borgudd. I presume these are pics from Swedish saloon cars, which Borgudd raced from 1972 to 1975. Can anyone identify what the car is, what year, and what track?

Swedish F3

Does anyone have Swedish F3 results for the years 1975-79 and 1983, and for Borgudd in particular?

Super Touring

Several questions here:

* Does anyone have results for the 1994 Nordic and Swedish Touring Car Championships?

* I've noted that Mika Hakkinen won the 1991 Nordic Touring Car Championship in a BMW. Can anyone confirm or deny?

* Did Borgudd compete in the 1993 Super Touring World Cup?

* Does anyone have, or know where I can find, pics of Slim in his Super Touring Mazda? I've found pics of him in just about every other category he's raced in, except Super Touring ...

And finally, an Alfa mystery ...

In the 8W Borgudd story, I came across this pic from Kyalami 1982. This isn't a Borgudd question really, but I'm intrigued nonetheless. Can anyone explain the yellow helmet in the Alfa following? AFAIK it's not either Giacomelli or de Cesaris' helmet ...

Many thanks in advance!!!

1994 it was no swedish championship but a nordic championship. Slim Borgudd was nordic champion. It was six races in finland, sweden and norwegian and Slim won 3 of the races in a Mazda Xedos. The result was

FIA class 2
1. Slim Borgudd Mazda Xedos 85 points
2. Thomas Johansson BMW 82 points
3. Per-Gunnar Andersson BMW 70 points

1991 we have race what was called "The nordic meeting between masters". I was only one race and the class group A was driven on Alastaro i Finland in september. The result was

1. Mika Häkinen BMW M3 Fin
2. Kalle Sarlin Ford Sierra RS500 Fin
3. Marku Fingerroos Opel Kadett GSi 16 v Fin
4. Lennart Bohlin BMW M3 Swe

In the beginning of the race Mika had a battle the swedish rally master Stig Bolmkvist. Stig could not continue the race when he get problem with the motor.

From touring car world 94/95:
Borgudd did not take part in rounds 1 & 2 (Hämeenlinna); he won both races at the next round (knutstorp); the next meeting was cancelled; the last round was at Anderstorp, a win and a second here.

He was not in the top-6 at the touring car world cup 1993

The only two to drive the Alfa at South Africa were A de C and Giacomelli. I think it is only the colouring of the photo, and not the helmet itself, that makes it appear yellow. It's Bruno.

I think you are seeing things that aren´t really there, my friend ;)

After inspecting the pictures and stories from two contemporary sources, I have found no trace of a "yellow" helmet being used by any of the Alfa drivers.

Then I have been "playing" with both the Hue and Saturation parameters of the picture and it is not that difficult to obtain a "reasonable" orange (Giaco) colour instead of that yeallowish without really compromising the aspect of the other yellow part (the band on Slim´s helmet).

So my impression is that what you see in that picture is an optical effect due to a reasonably inept choice of parameters in the developping machine.

Just a guess, tough :cat:

On another note, wasn´t Borgudd´s mother or father passing away --and very logically Slim being delayed in his arrival to the meeting-- the "excuse" that the Spanish marshalls did use to allow Emilio de Villota into the official scrutineering of 1981 Grand Prix? Somehow it rings a bell...although you will put things into perspective and, should delay be due to other less dramatic circumstances, clarify the issue.

As you chaps have said, the helmet definitely belongs to The Panda. He normally used dayglo orange, but - for some reason - didn't in 1981, and instead used a strange semi-metallic hue which was certainly prone to looking odd in certain light as can be seen here.

I don't know much about Slim, save for the fact that he seemed like a nice bloke on the odd occasion we met and proved in Vegas that he was just as good at losing money in the casinos as me... Although I can't remember if he told me this himself or not, I believe his ABBA involvement was just a couple of times as a session drummer.

The green car in the hands of Slim Borgudd at the comfortracing site, is a Volvo 122 (called Amazon in Sweden).

Slim Borgudd's Swedish F3 exploits are quite well documented in Swedish period magazines.

I have most of those, but it would take some time for me to assemble those results.

Thanks everyone so far ... pingst especially ... the info is most useful and appreciated!

Rainer, thanks for that. Any idea what year that might have been? I suspect 1974 or 1975, given that 8W's story on him says: "The next couple of years he spent driving a Hillman Imp in Group 2 saloon car racing, while in single-seaters he took the Scandinavian FF1600 title. He continued mixing touring cars with single-seaters into 1975, taking 2nd in the 1975 Swedish Saloon Car Championship".

I have most of those, but it would take some time for me to assemble those results.

Don't worry about it ... I'm more interested in championship results, so if you have any final championship placings easily accessible, that would be helpful! :)

So my impression is that what you see in that picture is an optical effect due to a reasonably inept choice of parameters in the developping machine.

Yes Felix and TW, I suspected that it was just Jack O'Malley's normal orange helmet and that by some trick of lighting it appeared yellow. However, I also wondered if he or AdC might have done a Berger at Estoril 1995, or a Montoya at Interlagos the last two years, and wore a 'one-off' helmet ...

He was not in the top-6 at the touring car world cup 1993

Frank, does that mean he did race at the event though? Is there any web-page with results of that race?

He did take part in that race, whcih was a 2-part job - he was 23rd in the first race (43 practiced, 42 started) and involved in an accident on the second lap of the second race.

I took a couple of photos of Borgudd's Mazda at the World Cup at Donington Park in 1994. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll scan them and send them to you.

I don't usually announce our new mini-biographies on TNF unless they're of particular interest, but I did want to thank everyone who responded to Takahashi's queries and provided us with information.

With it all, we put together this profile.

Yes, we spent far too much time dealing in painstaking detail with Slim's musical career, but hey, that was the fun bit!! Anyone own any of Slim's recordings??

Lovely biog of Slim, thank you for that!

One little thing, though. It's Knutstorp, not Knutsdorp, a spelling seen far too often in non-Swedish sources.

And, while I'm at it, it is 'Regnbågslandet' (The Rainbow Country) (1969-1970 music), and Tryggve Grönvall (Le Mans 1987)...
