There was also a bike fatality at Snetterton yesterday after a pile up at the start of the Lansdowne Classic race during the CRMC meeting but the name of the deceased rider hasn't been released yet

A practise crash at the Southern 100 road races on the Isle of Man has claimed the lives of a rider and a marshall, with another rider and a spectator injured; no names have been released yet. The meeting was abandoned after this sad event.

Two people were killed after a crash at a Sports Car Club of America Pro Solo autocross event in Washington on Sunday morning, race organizers said in a press release.

 

SCCA members Amber Dawn Jorgensen, 50, and Des Toups, 61, were killed following an incident where a vehicle involved in the competition continued on past the finish line, struck a person, and hit a structure, the SCCA said. It's unclear if either Jorgensen or Toups were driving the vehicle involved in the incident. The autocross was held at the Hampton Mills Old Lumber Yard in Randle, Washington. The rest of the event was canceled following the crash.

Just seen on Twitter: Shreyas Hareesh, the FIM MiniGP World Series India champion, has died following a crash at the Madras circuit. He was only 13 years old.

According to many sources a total of eight persons were killed during the so-called "Race to death" Paris-Madrid, held on 24 May 1903.

But one of the victims did not die.

One female by-passer in the town of Ablis was reported to be the first of eight deceased people, along with two race car drivers (Marcel Renault and Claude Loraine Barrow), three riding-mechanics (Rodez, Normand, Nixon), one policeman attending the race (Dupuy), one cyclist who was spectating the race (Caillon).

After the end of the race, following an inquest by the organizers, that woman's death was denied.

According to French newspaper Le Petit Parisien, issue of 28 mai 1903, an accident involving a private car with a man and a woman on board happened one hour before the start of the race. The car hit a horse carriage and the lady was slightly injured.

Possibly, due to the emotion caused by the other fatalities in the race, the news was amplified by contemporary newspapers to become a racing-related death.

Two fatal dragster accident occurred within two days in USA.

The first occurred at the U.S. 41 Motorplex in Morocco, Indiana, on 21 July 2023. The name of the deceased driver, a 45-year-old man driving a Mustand, was not released.

A day later, Al Zukauskas, jet drag racer from Chicago, IL, succumbed to injuries sustained in a high-speed crash at the Quaker City Motorsports Park near Salem, Ohio.

A rider of 30 years of experience, Ian Bainbridge was 69 years old.  There is a rally driver by the same name, active in UK since the early 2000s, until 2023. Was he the same person?

Bainbridge is a common North East name. The John Lewis store in Eldon Square in Newcastle was called Bainbridge's for years until they rebranded (and is, of course, still called that by everyone up here).

Tragic news coming out of the VSCC meeting at Mallory Park yesterday that competitor Roger Twelvetrees had died following an accident in the second race.

A French Motorsport Memorial contributor signaled a fatality which happened in France in 1988, resulting in the death of one Alain Magot.

No other information, no details, no date. it is not known whether he was a car or a motorcycle racer, a rallyman or an hillclimber or a touring car driver. Nothing.

According to newspaper Le Journal du Sud-Ouest (Bordeaux, France), issue of Monday, 20 June 1988, page 28, article " Décès d'Alain Magot", it was a traffic accident:

 

""Dans la nuit du vendredi 17 juin précédant la compétition on apprenait que le président du collège des conimissaires, le Landais Alain Magot [...]  Le secrétaire général de l'ASA des Landes, Alain Magot, a trouvé la mort dans un accident de la circulation à Sérignac (Tarn-et-Garonne[...]  Agé de 48 ans et également membre du bureau de la Ligue automobile du Sud-Ouest, Alain Magot, auteur de tous les règlements des courses tout-terrain d'endurance [...]"

 

It is unclear what competition Alain Magot was taking part in, purportedly he was arranging the race course.

RIP Jamie Kelman who's passed away 5 days after an accident at Brands.

It's with great sadness that the club reports the loss of our member Jamie Kelman.

He suffered a serious injury during the second YPM race on Saturday the 30th of September at Brands.

He was attended by the significant resource of the Bemsee medical team and he was evacuated to King's Hospital by air ambulance.

After a strong fight he succumbed to his injuries sadly on the 5th of October.

Jamie was a long-standing member of the club since 2017 and had started his career in the Team Green Senior series. He moved on to the MRO 600s for a while and most recently competed in Thunderbike Sport and Yamaha Past Masters. He was also a regular on the road circuits in the UK.

A 24-year-old Swiss drag racer was killed on Saturday, 16 September 2023, during the drag race SCC 500 "Rolling 50/1000" at Zweibrücken airfield in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. The driver lost control of his Audi TTRS as he crossed the finish line and rolled over several times. He died at the scene of the accident.

The name of the victim was not released.
