Just wanted to let you know that eventhough the time was 2 months this time, it was pretty difficult to make it all click, but worth the investigations. Got to know a couple of drivers a bit better actually :)

Anyway, the deadline isn't over yet, so I'll shut up on my ideas for a while longer...

The computer I borrowed to finish the quiz died on me last night!!!! I will try to salvage what I can and send it off ASAP. Anyway, it was a very, very good quiz and whether I bolo or max it or get tossed being late, I enjoyed it. As usual... :)

Well, my entry was finally salvaged and sent off. I think it was mediocre and not that good this time. Just too many things going on and my time is usually gone before I think about it. We are in the middle of a snowstorm so I am actually in a lull in the action.

Looks remarkably like my entry :)

Some differences in the pre-war decider, which you obviously would know better than me..half of it was guesswork here.

50's #2 : I was under the impression Tony Brooks finished the race.

80's Decider : I went with the infamous illegal Spanish Grand Prix for that one, because the story matched so nicely as a why :)

For the 70's decider I just put in .... well nevermind actually, it doesn't make sense at all.

Marcel,

I hope you do really well and collect some virtual "silverware." I have written off this quiz as a disaster. I just felt I did very poorly. I had to scramble after I lost a big chunk of it and it simply wasn't as good as I had hoped. Plus that car in the 70s Decider rang a bell, but nobody was home! Drat! I will be surprised to even be in the top ten for the Trintignant Trophy this time. Very poor showing on my part since the Why parts were really substandard.

On the Deciders: I knew probably all but three or four fairly quickly, but then had to hope my guesses were correct; I have no real idea about the one from the 70s and just didn't worry about it; for the 80s look at the sponsorship...

50s # 2, Brooks took over the Moss car and parked it. Remember that Tony was still suffering from his accident at Le Mans.

Don - I noticed the sponsorship and doubted very long about it. Problem was that I didn't _know_ any other Williams non-championship #27's from that year. First thought sponsorshipwise was Rupert Keegan, but with no facts to match it, I decided to go for Jones (also helmetwise) because the story fit so nicely..gotta write something huh? :)

About the Brooks / Moss thing : my sources are soooo weak :( I have Mon Ami Mate on order, so within a few weeks I should have a valuable source added to the collection, but for now...I see my score crumbling down each post

Just to assure you both, we had a fairly good amount of entries this time, but we admit we started to worry when the deadline was closing. I suspect everyone was scrambling to get things finished (and failing to do so in a couple of important cases...). Then, on closing day, they came pouring in.

Don: you're being too modest again.

Don on the 70s decider and Marcel on the 80s decider: you're not alone. It was a massacre :-)

You'll have your results in by Thursday, Friday at the latest.

RD : Why don't you say Don on the 70's decider and Marcel on both? You wouldn't want to say I was anywhere near with my guess on the 70's decider????

Actually, I tried to take part, but I missed the deadline and I only found the answers to the 80's section -and not even that! I still have no idea about the where and when of the 80's decider... :-(
I need to spend alot more time as a detective if I want to do any better, which is not possible right now.

I wasn't being modest. This was the most difficult 8W yet for me. Moving from the Pentagon to assuming a command plus a ton of other nitnoid things just ate up my time. Then then having a good chunk if it vanish at the last minute didn't help. Whine, whine, snivel, snivel....

However, I thought it was a marvelous quiz! Absolutely top notch! The Deciders were just great and that is with me being almost clueless on one - boy, will I be embarrassed when I find out the answer to the 70s one! - and they were all super. I love the challenge and find it great way to dig a bit deeper into things. I always stumble on things or find that bit of information to place on the table that isn't well known.

Winning is irrelevant to me, as nice as it might be. I have resigned myself to never getting the Coupe de 8W, especially as long as the 70s & 80s are on the Quiz... :)

BTW, I am crashing on the Vanwall special... It is almost done needing only to revise some of the narrative. I have kept it relatively brief, just like the career of the Vanwall.

Maybe we should feel embarrassed instead but I always take great enjoyment out of 8W players outsmarting the guys staging the game. I mean, it's easy for us. We *know* the results and you guys have to work hard for it. That is, we *think* we know the results.

This evening Michael Ferner, one of our former winners and a tough contender, made us look again at the second 70s picture. He was adamant there was an eighth (!) car in the queue following the pace car. And you know, he's right. We somehow missed it. We should be buying microscopes and magnifying glasses at 8W!

Before you start getting worried: Michael got the two extra points he deserved but it didn't change the outcome of the game.

BTW Marcel, if you send out the missing part of your entry before Sunday evening, we won't be strict and stick to the deadline. As we say in Dutch: we'll trust you by your blue eyes...

Don: great news about the Vanwall story. And Marcel, even Don's magnum opus on the 250F is a mere 160k, so you don't have me worried... It's Don's German F2 story I'm afraid of ;-)

It would appear there are other 8w players out there, Mr. Capps - for I am one at least.

Quite apart from posting here for the first time, I just entered 8w for the first time! But I've not been alive long enough to know too much, so it was 80s only, I'm afraid...

I teamed up with a friend of mine, and it'll be interesting to see how we stacked up against everyone else. It truly is great fun!

BTW, I reckon the 80s decider becomes a tad easier if you live in Australia!
