One thing that seen a racing magazine the other day was an unnamed driver who has won both Le Mans 24Hrs and the Daytona 24Hrs races stated that the Daytona road course was more difficult of a course than Le Mans course. What driver could this be? And has anyone else heard this?

I've heard many say that Daytona was more difficult due to many reasons. One is the long period of darkness in North America in Feb. Another is the car set up on the oval portion of the track.
That being said I really don't care for Daytona. We have enough squiggly roads inside of ovals in this country. I think LeMans is magnificent and something of a holdover from the past. THe chicanes were not as damaging as I thought they would be. I like the Porsche Curves, but miss the run through White House. The section from Mulsanne to Maison Blanche is the greatest piece of racetrack in the world today IMO.

I've heard many state that Daytona is more difficult because it's more stressful on the car, because of the banking. But I've never heard of anyone saying Daytona is more difficult to drive.

I think you'll find that the drivers like the chance to relax down a long straights during the long driving stints. Might not sound like much, but with lapping slower cars all the time (or looking out for faster ones) it would all add up. Down the straights you just drop it into top and rocket past anything slower, look at your gauges and that sort of thing.

There are a few factors on why the Rolex 24 is harder to drive than LeMans:
Like mentioned before:
- The night is longer at Daytona in Feburary.
- The G-Forces generated on the 31 degree banking.
But probably most importantly... 80 cars are competing on a 3.6 mile track in Daytona, while only 48 cars race on the 8.4 mile track in France. Traffic is much less of a concern in Le Mans.
