For the first time a team from the formule1.nl forum has enterd the 8w game. And we did not do bad at all but one of our team members has doubts over one of the awnsers given by the 8w team.

The photo we have a problem with is the pre war decider, with (nearly) all the drivers who enterd the Monaco GP on it. 8w thinks it is from 1935 but Dino has a book wich says it was taken in 1934. Does anyone here know the correct awnser??

It was definitely from 1935. There is another photo from the 1935 which showed Varzi and several others and the Mercedes cars very clearly.

The books is probably Grand Prix de Monaco by Rainer Schlegelmilch and Hartmut Lehbrink.

The books shows a similar picture, but not from the same year. I think that pic indeed is of 1934 and the 8W one is of 1935 for sure. One of the most well known faces in the 8W picture is that of Rudolf Caracciola, who wasn't present in 1934 because he was still suffering from injuries he sustained after a crash in the previous year at Monaco.

So possibly both are right, but definatelly the 8W one is 1935.

Hey ! :-)
I was not aware that someone might be wondering about one of "our" pics ! ;-)

The 8W 30's decider was scanned from Enzo Ferrari's "Piloti, che gente", Conti Editore 1985, pages 126 and 127, and yes, I see that it can be "confused" with the 1934 one in page 45 of Schlegelmilch's GP de Monaco.
But if you use a magnifying glass...

Hi everybody!

I indeed got puzzled a bit when I saw the picture in "GP de Monaco", mainly because the impressive appearance of race organizer Charles Faroux coverde a few drivers.
The wind-shield of Earl Howe didn't help either 'cause I falsly assumed he'd wear something less ridiculous the next year.

Thanks for the explanations.

On the same page in the same book there's a little mistake at photo #5, where they confuse Earl Howe and Pierre Veyron.

Great job at 8W I'd like to add.
Me and the rest of 'Historique d'Avantgarde' are having great fun solving the quiz.
Keep up the good work!

Anyone any hints on the #24 car?;)

Cheers,
Dino.
