The Google Driverless Car is a project by Google that involves developing technology for driverless cars. The project is currently being led by Google engineer Sebastian Thrun, director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and co-inventor of Google Street View

Video

The technology is surprisingly advanced. Yes there is no real life traffic in this video, but a closed circuit, the near or not so far future of motorsport? Notice how fast the car tackles the track. One can assume that average everyday drivers would not be able show this kind of precision and speed.

It would not be motor sport any longer.

E: In normal traffic driving, sure. It'd be great.

We'll cheer for algorithms then.

My algorithm is better than yours :D

algorithm #4 and algorithm #6 incident is being investigated by the compilers -

algorithm #1 writes "abu dhabi and valencia are the best tracks ever"

algorithm #3 writes " fatal error: balance() not found"

now? near future? naaah forget it.. :drunk:

but say, 30 years from now? just think about this.. , we wouldn't be cheering for drivers anymore, but actual teams and their developers/programmers etc, the agressiveness built into their AI to compete and win without risking a crash or getting disqualified etc..

I'm not saying it WILL replace human motorsports someday, but hey, 30 years can change a lot of things...

I dont think it will replace normal autosport completely, but we may see separate AI contolled series. One advantage is that not having to worry about safety, AI contolled cars may have higher speeds and more wheel to wheel action.

Remote control cars are already possible and you don't see them raced on F1 level. AI controlled cars will also be possible but they will not replace F1 drivers. Simply because there needs to be a championship for drivers and people are much more interested in who the drivers champion is than who the constructors champion is.

It would be curiosity only. Who would watch it? No one watching it = no sponsors = no money.
